The acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM has ordered swift operations to curb the “unwarranted” killings in the Sagamu cult clash in Ogun State.
This was displayed in a terse statement issued by the Force Spokesman, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on his official X handle.
The IGP’s directive followed a series of violent cult clashes that have left some persons dead while others were injured in the clash.
The statement said the CP Ogun, Abiodun Alamutu, on Monday, paid an on-the-spot assessment and confidence-building patrol in Sagamu.
According to the statement, the acting will also assist the command with resources where necessary.
“Sagamu Cult Clash: CP Ogun, Abiodun Alamutu, is presently in Sagamu on the spot assessment and confidence-building patrol. The IGP has ordered swift operations to be carried out in the town to curb the unwarranted killings. We will also assist the command with resources where necessary. The command will speak on this ASAP. Thanks,” the statement reads.

Meanwhile, the authorities of the LG have declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew on commercial motorcycles and tricycles, citing their alleged role in facilitating the escape of the perpetrators involved in the killings.
This was made known in a statement made available to the public by the LG Chairman, Jubril Odulate on Monday.
According to the statement, it was observed that the perpetrators of the killings escaped using motorcycles and tricycles after the heinous act.
The statement read, “To curb the insurrection and ensure adequate security in Sagamu, we hereby impose the following restrictions starting today, Monday, 18th, September 2023. Operating hours for Okada riders and Maruwa operators are from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. until further notice.”
