The Police Service Commission (PSC) and Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have agreed to set up joint committees to look into areas of likely friction in the operations of the two institutions.
The acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, paid a courtesy visit to the office of the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Dr. Solomon Arase, on Thursday.
The duo deliberated behind closed doors on several issues that will positively impact the two institutions.
The Commission and the Force have been at loggerheads over the recruitment of Police constables, promotion, and other salient issues. However, upon assumption of Office, Dr. Arase pledged that he would ensure cordiality in the oversight relationship between the commission and the Nigeria Police
Part of the resolutions reached include setting up the Recruitment Board that will include all the strategic stakeholders in future recruitment exercises, handling the issues of discipline expeditiously, and ensuring that promotions are prompt and based on merit, seniority, and availability of vacancy.
