The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has issued an advisory to users of prepaid meters, encouraging them to update their devices before November 2024.

This update, as stated by NERC through its communication on its official social media platform, is essential to ensure uninterrupted service and compatibility with the evolving system.

NERC emphasized that the update process is free of charge and will not impact the current prepaid units available to users.

The regulatory commission also assured users that their meters will continue to function as before and that the update will not alter the pace of their meter’s operation.

To facilitate the update process, Distribution Companies (DisCos) will begin the issuance of two free Key Change Tokens (KCTs) to each user. These tokens will serve to update the prepaid meters and ensure their seamless functionality beyond the stipulated deadline.

NERC’s statement underlined that the update is crucial to guarantee the continued functionality of the prepaid meters and the ease of recharging. Users were encouraged to reach out to their respective Distribution Companies for further information and guidance regarding the update process.
