The Acting Inspector General of Police, Ag. IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, on Thursday, launched the Police-VGS Quick Reporting and Response System (QERRS) Application, designed by Vigiscope Limited, to report cases of rape, kidnapping, murder, robbery, violence or any other incidents.
The app serves as a means to leverage cutting-edge tools, data analytics, intelligence networks to stay one step ahead of criminal elements and respond to emergency situations/distress calls promptly.
According to Ag. IGP Egbetokun, the mobile app represents a pivotal milestone in the Force’s commitment to providing top-notch security services and smart policing to all residents across the country through swift and efficient action in alarming moments.
“This innovative system reflects our commitment to enhancing public safety, boasting security and fostering a safer environment for every Nigerian. The Police-VGS application marks a significant step forward in our effort to move away from analogue policing and stay in tune with current happenings in the global system.
“This innovation is not just about taking advantage of technology, it represents the epitome of our commitment to the security and safety of members of the public.”
He further noted that the acceptance of the app by members of the public will significantly impact police services as enshrined in the constitution.
In his address, the Chairman of Vigiscope, Engr Steve Olu, described the app as a new technology that makes it easy for protecting the lives and properties of members of the public as well as keeping security personnel from harm’s way.
“It is a situational awareness instrument that enables users to within five secs of incidents occurrence, thereby activating prompt response from security agency, which is the Police. In case of any incident, you need to be courageous to swipe or trigger the app on your phone. It will get to all Commands and Control Centre around the country including Force Headquarters simultaneously,” he stated.
A retired Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mike Okiro (Rtd), also said the app underscores the need for people to cooperate with the Police as security is a collective responsibility, stressing that there must be a synergy between the Police and members of the public.
