32-year-old Yusuf Ismael Isah, a suspect involved in the 2022 attack on the Founder of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has been arrested by Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Response Team (FIB-IRT).
It would be recalled that the convoy of Apostle Suleman was attacked by gunmen along Benin – Auchi Road on October 21, 2022, and six people -including three Police personnel were gruesomely murdered.
While the suspect was paraded on Thursday by the Force Spokesperson, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, he confessed that he joined the 7-man gang in 2021 after he was freed from Olokuta Correctional Center where he served a two-year prison sentence for alleged involvement in armed robbery.
According to him, he was the first person to shoot at the Apostle and the initial plan was to assassinate him, but it was foiled by his Police escorts.
They had trailed him for days and planted an informant on Benin – Auchi Express Road to feed them updates on his itinerary on the day of the attack, the FPRO said.
CSP Adejobi also added that the gang was responsible for kidnapping a popular oil dealer at Jetu, Auchi, in 2022 and collected a ransom of 70 million naira.
They also kidnapped a businessman along Benin – Agbor Express Road in 2022 and collected 20 million naira as ransom from the victim’s family.
The Police found five Ak47 Rifles, two K2 Assault rifles, 180 live ammunition and four suspected IEDs in the suspect’s apartment at Agbaraoluwa Phase 2 Ijoka, Akure, Ondo State.
