Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested the National president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa, and three other officials.
The three other arrested officials are the General Secretary, Anthony Asogwa Chukudi; Olayi Odion, National Trustee; and the Principal Assistant Secretary, Abdulrasak Yemi.
The Policemen also sealed off NURTW’s national secretariat at Garki 2, Abuja.
Confirming the arrest to newsmen on Saturday, the union’s deputy president, Mr. Isa Ore, said it was shocking to see the operatives locking their secretariat without explaining the reason behind their actions.
“Today, Saturday, we were preparing for the inauguration and swearing-in of the newly elected National Administrative Council members, but we just saw the Police, and they asked us to leave the premises.
“They said it was an order from above, and they have detained our president and other leaders at Wuse Police Station,” he said.
Police authorities are yet to release an official statement on the development.
