The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 44 persons involved in the stealing of food and non-food items in the government and other private warehouses in Yola, Adamawa State.
The Command confirmed that arrest via its official Twitter handle.
The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday when the hoodlums vandalised the facilities and stole various items.
25 male suspects were initially arrested, and some stolen items were recovered.
According to the State Police Spokesperson, SP Suleiman Ngoruje, the warehouse that was looted belonged to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), while the hoodlums were prevented from invading the one belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture.
The State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has imposed a 24-hour curfew to checkmate the criminal activities.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, also set up a task force team to enforce the curfew.
Efforts are ongoing to arrest others involved in the act and recover stolen items.
