In a concerning incident that unfolded on August 14, 2023, Nigerian soldiers reportedly launched an attack on officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) in the Ojota area of Lagos state. The disturbing episode involved soldiers wielding weapons and verbally abusing the LASTMA officials.
This unfortunate incident appears to be a response to a recent altercation involving a LASTMA official who was caught on camera assaulting a soldier inside a popular commercial vehicle known as a ‘Danfo’ in the Ketu area of the state.
The soldiers involved in the attack on the LASTMA officials seem to have taken it upon themselves to retaliate on behalf of their fellow soldiers.
This retaliatory violence highlights the tensions that can arise between different arms of law enforcement and public officials, raising concerns about the use of force and the need for proper channels of conflict resolution.
