A Nigerian man, identified as Ogbaugu David Uka, has been arrested in Bengaluru, India, for alleged drug peddling.
The suspect was found in possession of 264 Ecstasy pills with an estimated value of Rs 10.56 lakh, about nine million nairas.
Although he resides in Bengaluru, he often travels to Hyderabad to supply drugs to consumers from Hyderabad and Telangana.
He was arrested on Wednesday by Film Nagar Police, in collaboration with sleuths of the Anti-Narcotics Bureau.
Authorities had noticed a trend of peddlers urging consumers to travel to Bengaluru for purchases and commenced an investigation.
According to Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand, David Uka arrived in the country in 2013 on a two-month business trip but when his visa expired, he remained in the country and went into drug peddling.
“He also claims himself as chairman of All India Nigerian Students and Community Association. The objective of this association is to arrange bail and provide legal assistance to drug offenders from Nigeria who get arrested in India,” Anand said.
Authorities reveal that he has concealed his identity by forging documents and adopting fake names. His recent identity is that of a pastor.
