Nigeria will mark its 63rd independence anniversary on 1st October 2023.
IGP Egbetokun’s message was contained in a statement issued by the force Spokesman, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Saturday evening.
In the statement, the police boss noted that as Nigerians come together to celebrate “this milestone”, it is “imperative to acknowledge the unity, diversity, and strength that define our great nation as the challenges on our journey to independence has shaped us into a nation that perseveres and thrives in the face of adversity.”
Commenting on concerns raised from some quarters as to the security of the nation during the celebrations, the IGP assured all residents of Nigeria that the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety and security of every individual during this celebration.
“Strategic deployments have been made with additional personnel and operational assets to critical areas to maintain law and order,” the statement reads.
“The Inspector General of Police urges all Nigerians to participate in the celebrations responsibly, adhering to all safety guidelines and respecting the rights and property of fellow citizens, and encourages all and sundry to seize the opportunity to reflect on our shared values, renew our commitment to a peaceful coexistence, and work together to build a better and safer Nigeria for all.”
