As part of the sanctions on the Niger military junta, the Federal Government last Friday ordered the immediate closure of all land borders with Niger Republic over the current political instability.
Economic activities in the Seven northern States that share borders with Niger Republic, namely, Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Zamfara, Jigawa, Yobe, and Borno have been greatly affected.
To strengthen the internal security architecture at the borders and prevent external invasion, the acting Inspector General of Police, Ag. IGP Olukayode Egbetokun maintained that the Nigeria Police Force is working with sister security agencies to monitor the situation.
The Ag. IGP stated this in Abuja during a meeting with Commissioners of Police and above on Tuesday.
He said, “I already directed that CP Commands and Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) in charge of those border States are to work collaboratively with our sister agencies, especially the Customs Service at the border to ensure that there are no internal security issues with respect to what is happening.”
