The Yobe State Police Command has arrested four suspects in separate criminal cases involving theft, assault and criminal conspiracy, while also recovering a stolen goat and building materials worth millions of naira.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim.
According to the statement, one of the incidents was reported at the ‘A’ Division in Damaturu on August 2, 2026, following the alleged theft of a goat at the Sunday Market.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a 35-year-old suspect allegedly stole the animal, while attempting to flee the scene. The police said an 80-year-old accomplice allegedly attacked the complainant with a stick, causing injuries to the back of his head.
Police operatives were immediately deployed to the scene, where both suspects were arrested. The stolen goat and the stick allegedly used in the assault were recovered as exhibits.
In a separate operation, the command said it received a complaint on August 1 regarding the theft of building materials valued at about ₦2.5 million.
The case, which involved alleged criminal conspiracy and theft, was assigned to the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).
According to the police, intelligence-led investigations led to the recovery of building materials valued at approximately ₦1.5 million.
The operation also resulted in the arrest of three suspects allegedly found in possession of the stolen materials and believed to have received and traded in the items.
The recovered materials have been secured as exhibits, while efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining items and conclude investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Yobe State Command, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, directed investigators to ensure a thorough and timely investigation into both cases and ordered that anyone found culpable be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and appealed to residents to continue providing timely and credible information to assist security agencies in preventing and combating crime.
