The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has dismissed claims circulating on social media questioning the credibility of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.
The examination body described the reports as unverified, insisting that the results were generated through established procedures designed to ensure accuracy, transparency and fairness.
WAEC’s response came amid growing comments from social media personalities and content creators casting doubt on the reliability of the recently released results.
In a statement by its Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, the Council said it recognised the importance of public scrutiny but cautioned against treating unsubstantiated claims as facts.
“While the Council welcomes constructive scrutiny as part of its accountability to candidates, parents, schools, and the wider public, it wishes to state unequivocally that this year’s results were produced through the same rigorous, transparent, and quality-assured processes that have guided the Council’s operations for decades,” it said.
According to WAEC, the 2026 WASSCE for School Candidates was conducted in line with its standard operating procedures and applicable educational policies, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education.
The Council also acknowledged the concerns that typically accompany the release of examination results, particularly for candidates seeking admission or preparing for further studies.
However, it urged candidates, parents and other members of the public to verify information before believing or sharing claims found online.
WAEC explained that candidates’ examination scripts are subjected to several stages of marking, moderation and auditing. The process involves standardised marking schemes and qualified subject specialists to promote consistency and impartiality in the assessment.
The Council further reminded the public that there are established channels through which candidates can submit complaints, request clarification or raise queries concerning their results.
“WAEC maintains clear procedures for addressing queries or grievances. Guidance on query resolutions is available via the Council’s offices nationwide and online channels for information dissemination; our website remains www.waecnigeria.org, http://www.waecnigeria.org, and our X and Facebook accounts remain @waecnigeria,” the statement added.
WAEC reaffirmed that it remains committed to maintaining the credibility of its examinations and safeguarding the interests of candidates.
It advised anyone with concerns about the 2026 results to approach the Council through its offices or verified platforms instead of relying on unconfirmed information circulating on social media.
