The United Kingdom has appointed Vicky Seymour as its new Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, with her posting taking effect in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
The appointment was announced by the UK Government on Thursday in a statement confirming that Seymour has officially assumed office, succeeding Gill Lever OBE, whose diplomatic assignment in Nigeria ended in June 2026.
According to the statement, Seymour will play a key role in advancing the longstanding partnership between the UK and Nigeria. Her responsibilities will include supporting collaboration in areas such as economic development, security, migration, international cooperation, development initiatives and strengthening ties between the people of both countries.
Seymour brings more than 20 years of experience in diplomacy, international development and public service.
Before her appointment to Nigeria, she served as Head of the East Africa Department at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), a position she held from 2023.
She previously led the FCDO’s Trade Diplomacy Department and also served as Development Director in Mozambique.
Throughout her career, Seymour has held senior leadership positions across several African countries, including Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as Afghanistan. Her work has focused on climate policy, security, economic development and international partnerships.
Before joining the UK civil service, she worked in the non-profit sector, where she specialised in migration-related issues.
