The WHO made the declaration on Thursday, commending Uganda for successfully containing the outbreak and preventing further transmission.
The announcement followed the discharge of the country’s last confirmed Ebola patient on July 16, 2026. No additional transmission linked to the case was recorded during the required 42-day monitoring period.
The WHO said Uganda’s response demonstrated strong coordination between the government, health workers and development partners in controlling the disease.
The organisation also praised the country for taking swift measures to prevent the outbreak from spreading more widely, particularly amid the ongoing Ebola situation in parts of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Uganda recorded 20 cases during the outbreak, with most of those infected having travelled from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Two people died from the disease during the outbreak, while health authorities continued surveillance and other preventive measures until the country met the requirements for an official declaration of the end of transmission.
