Enitan took the oath of office on Thursday during a brief ceremony held at the State House in Abuja, officially beginning his tenure as the nation’s top civil servant.
The transition of leadership was completed the same day, as Walson-Jack and Enitan signed the necessary documents before the outgoing Head of Service handed over the official transition note to her successor.
Walson-Jack, who retired after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60, described the document as her handover note covering the period from August 14, 2024, to August 27, 2026.
The exchange of the handover document and a subsequent handshake between both officials marked the official transfer of authority to Enitan.
An indigene of Osun State, Enitan becomes the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service. Before his appointment, he had spent seven years and seven months serving as a Permanent Secretary.
His career in government has included postings to the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President. He later served as Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education.
President Tinubu had approved Enitan’s appointment on August 19, 2026, with the new appointment taking effect on August 27.
At the time of the announcement, the President said Enitan’s extensive experience and knowledge of the workings of the Federal Civil Service would be valuable in his new position.
Tinubu tasked the new Head of Service with sustaining ongoing reforms, improving efficiency and professionalism, and ensuring that the Civil Service becomes more responsive to the needs of Nigerians.
The President also urged him to promote a service built around merit, accountability, innovation and professionalism.
Tinubu commended Walson-Jack for her contributions to the Civil Service, particularly the reforms and innovations recorded during her period in office.
Born on December 12, 1966, Enitan began his education at Ajibode Grammar School in Ibadan and later attended the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife.
He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking from the University of Lagos in 1988 and went on to earn a Master’s degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University in 2015.
