President Bola Tinubu has applauded the successful rescue of 308 Nigerians who were abducted in separate attacks in Niger and Kwara states, describing the operation as a significant achievement in the country’s fight against insecurity.
The rescued victims include 163 residents of Woro Community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State and 145 others kidnapped in Niger State.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the victims were rescued from the Kainji Lake National Park Forest in New Bussa Local Government Area of Niger State during a coordinated intelligence-led operation.
The operation was conducted by the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) in collaboration with personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force.
The Presidency described the mission as the largest single-day rescue of kidnap victims ever carried out by the joint security team.
President Tinubu commended the security personnel for their bravery, professionalism and effective collaboration, noting that the successful operation reflects the growing capacity of Nigeria’s security agencies to tackle criminal activities.
The Presidency also disclosed that the rescued victims are currently receiving medical attention at the Wawa Cantonment Medical Facility before being reunited with their families through their respective state governments after completing medical evaluations.
The President further directed security agencies to strengthen early warning systems, improve intelligence gathering at the community level and enhance rapid response strategies to prevent similar incidents across the country.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to combating insecurity, protecting vulnerable communities and ensuring lasting peace across Nigeria.
