The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Wednesday when unidentified individuals allegedly gained access to his residence and attacked him.
Following the incident, police officers arrived at the scene and subsequently evacuated the victim to a hospital, where efforts were reportedly made to attend to him.
His remains were later released to his family after preliminary examinations.
A member of the deceased’s family said two persons had reportedly been arrested in connection with the incident, although the exact circumstances surrounding the killing remained unclear.
The family said it was not pointing accusing fingers at any individual, but called on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that whoever was responsible is brought to justice.
Dan Shagamu, who was married and had six children, was widely known for his online videos and commentaries on political, religious and community matters.
His death has also drawn renewed attention to a previous video in which he raised concerns about alleged threats to his life.
In the video, the commentator appealed to the Kano State Government, the Emirate authorities and the police for intervention, claiming that he had been repeatedly harassed by some residents in his neighbourhood.
He alleged that children had pelted his house with stones, damaged property and gathered around his residence to insult and threaten him.
Dan Shagamu said he had reported the matter to traditional authorities in the area but claimed that the situation had continued despite the interventions.
He also alleged that some of his neighbours were aware of the threats and had joined forces against him.
Before his death, he operated under the name Dan Shagamu International and was particularly active on social media, where he discussed political developments, religious issues and matters affecting his community.
He had also been vocal in his criticism of the Federal Government and had publicly expressed support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
His online activities equally included commentaries on religious controversies and prominent Islamic figures in Kano.
The killing has sparked concern among residents, with calls for the authorities to intensify efforts to identify the perpetrators and establish whether the earlier threats reported by the deceased were connected to his death.
The investigation is ongoing.
