The renewed attacks came shortly after US President Donald Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, held discussions in Moscow and Kyiv over efforts to advance negotiations aimed at ending the war.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said drones targeted the Boryspil and Fastiv districts in the Kyiv region. Emergency teams were deployed to areas affected by the attacks.
Authorities in Kyiv also activated an air raid alert, warning residents of a possible drone attack and urging them to move to shelters.
A series of explosions was heard across the capital early Tuesday, according to AFP journalists in the city. The blasts reportedly set off car alarms in central Kyiv, while smoke and the glow of a fire could be seen from some areas.
Ukrainian authorities said several buildings were damaged in Kyiv and the Boryspil and Fastiv districts, although the full extent of the damage was still being assessed.
Russia’s state-run TASS news agency earlier confirmed that the temporary halt in strikes had expired.
The pause had coincided with the visit of Witkoff and Kushner, who held talks with officials in both Russia and Ukraine as Washington sought to push forward diplomatic efforts.
Witkoff described the discussions as showing signs of progress, raising hopes that negotiations involving Russia, Ukraine and the United States could resume as part of wider efforts to secure a peace agreement.
