The Nigeria Police Force has commenced nationwide clearance operations targeting bandits, kidnappers and other violent criminal groups following the recent training and retraining of Police Mobile Force personnel.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, who said tactical teams had been deployed to identify criminal hideouts, vulnerable areas and security flashpoints across the country.

According to the statement, the operations are aimed at dismantling criminal networks, restricting their movements and activities, and improving security in affected communities.

The exercise began with a pilot operation at Alagye Village in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, following intelligence reports indicating the presence of a suspected kidnappers’ camp in a nearby forest.

The police said personnel conducted a tactical assessment and clearance of the identified location but found the camp deserted upon arrival.

It added that the operations would be expanded to state police commands nationwide, with deployments determined by intelligence reports and prevailing security conditions.

The Force said all officers participating in the exercise had been directed to maintain professionalism, respect human rights and conduct their operations in accordance with the law.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, charged the personnel to sustain pressure on bandits, kidnappers and other criminal networks, deny them freedom of action and ensure that the operations translate into improved safety for residents.

Disu also urged the officers to remain disciplined, professional and responsive in the discharge of their duties.

The police called on members of the public to cooperate with security personnel and provide credible information that could assist ongoing operations.

The Force assured Nigerians that updates would be provided as the clearance exercise progresses across state commands.

It reaffirmed its commitment to deploying trained personnel and operational resources to combat banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes, protect lives and property, and enhance security across the country.
