The Force described the document as fraudulent, saying it was neither issued nor authorised by any of its departments or formations.
The fake statement was circulated on WhatsApp and other social media platforms under the headline, “IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu Directs Commencement Of Training For 50,000 Newly Recruited Police Constables.”
It was also presented on what appeared to be official Nigeria Police Force letterhead and carried the name and designation of the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu.
According to the fabricated document, the Inspector-General of Police had directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Training and Development to commence arrangements for the training of successful recruits.
It further claimed that the
exercise would focus on discipline, professionalism, integrity, respect for human rights and effective policing, while directing successful candidates to check the police recruitment portal from Monday, September 14, 2026, for details of their training institutions and resumption dates.
The statement also purportedly quoted the Inspector-General as commending President Bola Tinubu for his support towards strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.
However, in a disclaimer issued on Friday, the Police Force urged members of the public to disregard the document, stressing that it did not emanate from the organisation.
The Force said, “The document is false and was neither issued nor authorised by the Nigeria Police Force.”
It particularly warned applicants participating in the ongoing recruitment process against relying on unverified information regarding their recruitment or training.
According to the police, candidates should obtain updates only through the official police recruitment portal and verified communication channels of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Force also disclosed that an investigation had commenced to identify those responsible for producing and circulating the forged statement.
It warned that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and verify recruitment-related information through official channels to avoid falling victim to fraudulent messages and schemes.
