The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man suspected of armed robbery and recovered a locally made pistol and a live cartridge from him in Obollo Etiti, Udenu Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, identified as Chekwube Agbo, was arrested on Monday, August 10, 2026, following credible information received by the police about his suspicious activities at a hotel where he had reportedly gone to lodge.
Acting on the information, police operatives searched the suspect’s bag and discovered a locally made pistol and a live cartridge, leading to his immediate arrest.
The suspect was subsequently taken into custody along with the recovered weapon and ammunition.
During preliminary interrogation, Agbo reportedly confessed to being a member of an armed robbery gang that targets Point-of-Sale (POS) operators, allegedly threatening them and dispossessing them of their valuables.
He further disclosed that other members of the gang escaped after his arrest.
This was revealed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Enugu State Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe.
According to the statement, the suspect will be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the individual who provided the information that led to the arrest.
The police commissioner also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information about suspicious persons and activities to assist security agencies in preventing crime.
The command said efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing members of the suspected robbery gang, while investigations into the case continue.
