The company said the truck, with registration number MKA 960 XC, has no connection with NNPC Ltd or any of its authorised dealers.
NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, disclosed this in a statement, saying the company conducted internal checks after the vehicle was seized by anti-narcotics operatives.
According to Odeh, the truck
could not be traced to NNPC Ltd’s official asset records. He also noted that although the vehicle carried NNPC branding, the insignia was different from the company’s current logo.
The company is now working with the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) to establish how the truck came to be marked with its former identity.
Odeh described the unauthorised use of the company’s name and branding, particularly in connection with criminal activities, as a serious concern.
He said NNPC Ltd would cooperate fully with the NDLEA and other relevant security agencies to determine the actual ownership and operators of the truck.
The company also called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the use of its former markings, adding that it was reviewing its brand-protection and asset-monitoring mechanisms to prevent similar incidents.
NNPCL said it would consider legal action against those responsible if the investigation establishes wrongdoing.
The company urged members of the public and government agencies to verify claims of affiliation with NNPC Ltd through official channels before relying on any vehicle or individual displaying the company’s identity.
Odeh also commended the NDLEA for its continued efforts to disrupt drug trafficking and intercept illicit substances across the country.
