The Nigerian Army has detained two serving soldiers over their alleged involvement in an unauthorised security deployment during the star-studded wedding of popular content creator Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, and fellow TikTok personality Jarvis.
The soldiers were reportedly arrested after military authorities received intelligence suggesting they participated in an illegal deployment at the wedding, which took place in Lekki, Lagos State, over the weekend.
Military sources disclosed that the personnel were taken into custody on Tuesday morning, with an investigation already underway to determine how they came to be assigned to the private event.
The arrested soldiers were identified as Private Onasanya Ifeoluwa, attached to the 81 Division Medical Services and Hospital (81DMSH), and Private Ukpai Onyinyechi, who also serves with the same unit based in Obalende, Lagos.
According to a military source, the arrests followed credible intelligence linking the soldiers to the unauthorised assignment. The source added that preliminary investigations are focused on establishing the level of their involvement and identifying any other personnel who may have participated in the operation.
Authorities said further information would be released as the investigation progresses.
The arrests followed the circulation of several videos from the celebrity wedding showing men dressed in military uniforms providing security and escorting some guests around the venue.
One of the widely shared clips allegedly captured a soldier acting as security for TikTok personality Ivanna while guiding her through the crowd, sparking debate on social media.
The footage attracted criticism from many Nigerians, who questioned why serving military personnel were allegedly involved in providing security at a private social event attended by celebrities and online influencers.
The wedding of Peller and Jarvis drew a large number of entertainers, content creators, influencers and fans, making it one of the most talked-about celebrity gatherings of the weekend.
However, attention soon shifted from the celebration to the presence of uniformed soldiers after videos emerged showing them controlling access to parts of the venue and accompanying selected guests.
The Nigerian Army has consistently maintained that serving personnel are not permitted to undertake private security assignments or participate in deployments that have not received official authorisation.
