Suspected Lakurawa terrorists have reportedly carried out another deadly raid in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State, leaving three people dead, a farmer injured, security vehicles destroyed and several cattle stolen.
The attack, which reportedly took place on Monday afternoon, targeted a community in the council area and has heightened fears over the worsening security situation across vulnerable parts of the state.
According to reports, those killed include a police officer identified as Hussaini Manyu, an elderly resident, Bala Wakili, and a young herder who was allegedly murdered after refusing to hand over his cattle to the armed attackers.
A farmer was also said to have sustained gunshot injuries while working on his farmland during the assault.
The gunmen reportedly set fire to a Police Hilux patrol vehicle and a Community Guard Hilux, dealing another blow to local security operations. They also fled with an unspecified number of stolen cattle.
Residents further alleged that the attackers assaulted a married woman after she resisted an attempted sexual attack during the invasion.
Security analyst Bakatsine confirmed the incident on Tuesday, citing information from local sources. He said the armed group carried out coordinated attacks that resulted in multiple deaths, destruction of security assets and livestock theft.
The latest incident has triggered renewed concern among residents, who say repeated attacks by armed groups continue to threaten lives, livelihoods and property despite ongoing security efforts.
The attack adds to the growing list of violent incidents linked to armed groups operating across northern Nigeria, where communities continue to grapple with killings, cattle rustling, destruction of public assets and other forms of criminal violence.
