The deceased have since been buried according to Islamic rites as family members, friends and relatives gathered to offer condolences.
The tragedy occurred around 5 a.m. on Tuesday at No. 41 Popo Giwa Street, beside Gogoro Mosque, where eight members of the same family were initially trapped under the rubble.
The father of the family and two other children survived the collapse and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
The family has also decided to pull down the remaining portion of the building after it was found to have failed an integrity assessment.
The head of the family, Mr Lanre Qudus, said the family had already vacated the structure and would proceed with its demolition to prevent further danger.
Meanwhile, Bashir Lawal, Chairman of the Kwara State Technical Committee of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, called for a comprehensive audit of buildings across the state.
He said such an exercise would help identify unsafe structures and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
An eyewitness, Abdulganiy Musa, said the father of the family is a serving soldier, while the mother worked as a casual staff member at the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies in Ilorin.
