A woman abducted from her residence in Amukpe, Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State, has been rescued by security operatives after spending a night in captivity.
The Delta State Police Command said the woman was kidnapped on Wednesday while attempting to drive into her compound.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the attackers had positioned themselves at the entrance of the residence and moved in as
she arrived.
The kidnappers reportedly fired several shots into the air before dragging the woman into a nearby bush.
Following a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer in Sapele quickly mobilised patrol and surveillance teams to the area.
Spent AK-47 ammunition shells were recovered at the scene, while police operatives and local vigilantes launched a search of the surrounding bushes.
The operation continued through the night and into Thursday morning.
Edafe said the sustained pressure from the search team forced the kidnappers to abandon their victim and flee the area.
The woman was subsequently found and rescued without injuries before being reunited with her family.
Meanwhile, the police have intensified efforts to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Samuel Erale, praised the police officers and local vigilantes who participated in the operation.
Eralе also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven operations against kidnapping, cultism and other criminal activities across the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely and reliable information that could assist in preventing and responding to criminal activities.
