The demonstration, which involved youths and adults, saw residents move through major streets of Funtua, voicing concern over the increasing raids by suspected bandits.
The protesters called for stronger security measures, expressing fears that repeated attacks in communities around the Funtua axis could eventually spread into the town.
The demonstration comes amid renewed security challenges across Katsina and neighbouring Zamfara states, where banditry, kidnapping and attacks on rural communities have remained a major concern.
In Katsina, security agencies reported several operations in July targeting suspected bandits in Funtua and Musawa Local Government Areas. The operations reportedly led to the rescue of a kidnap victim and the recovery of 15 stolen cattle.
Zamfara has also recorded a series of deadly attacks in recent months.
In one incident in late August, eight travellers were reportedly killed and several others abducted when armed men attacked a highway in the state. Security forces later said 17 suspected bandits were neutralised during operations launched in response.
Earlier in August, an attack on Kasuwar Daji in Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area reportedly left at least six soldiers dead, while more than 70 residents were abducted.
The violence has also taken a heavy toll on farmers. In July, 26 farmers reportedly killed during an attack on farming communities in Zamfara were buried, highlighting the danger faced by residents who depend on agriculture for their livelihoods.
Government and political officials have also not been spared. On July 25, the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area, Nura Umar Bungudu, was reportedly abducted after suspected bandits attacked his residence. Four security personnel were said to have been killed during the incident.
The scale of the insecurity has
prompted intensified military operations. In July, the Nigerian military announced that its troops had killed more than 300 suspected bandits during a two-day operation in Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara.
However, despite the security operations, residents in several communities continue to report attacks, kidnappings and disruption of their daily activities.
The insecurity has particularly affected farming, with some residents reportedly abandoning their homes and farmlands because of fears of further attacks.
In June, six farmers were reportedly killed and several residents abducted when suspected bandits attacked Gora community in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara.
There have also been successful rescue operations. On August 30, security forces reportedly rescued passengers who had been abducted after armed men intercepted a commercial vehicle in Zamfara.
Despite these efforts, the latest protest in Funtua reflects growing frustration among residents who want more sustained security measures.
The protesters are calling for increased deployment of security personnel, improved intelligence gathering and quicker responses to distress calls, particularly in rural communities and areas close to forests.
For many residents, the concern goes beyond attacks in neighbouring communities. They fear that if the situation is not brought under control, Funtua itself could face a more serious security threat.
