The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old suspected drug trafficker, Ibrahim Usman, and recovered 28 blocks of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis during an intelligence-led operation.
The arrest was carried out on July 20, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m. when operatives of the command, on routine visibility patrol along the Mashi–Birnin Kuka border axis, intercepted the suspect following credible intelligence.
A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of 28 blocks of dried leaves believed to be Cannabis sativa. During interrogation, Usman reportedly confessed that he was transporting the illicit substance for distribution and sale within Katsina State and other parts of the country.
Police said the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The development was revealed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Katsina State Command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, ANIPR.
Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, psc(+), mnips, reiterated the command’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and substance abuse across the state. He warned drug traffickers and other criminal elements to abandon their activities or face the full weight of the law.
The police commissioner also commended residents for their continued support and cooperation with security agencies in the fight against crime and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely information to aid policing efforts.
