IGP REDEPLOYS OSUN CP IBRAHIM GOTAN TO FORCE HEADQUARTERS

The redeployment was conveyed in a police wireless message issued by the Force Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday and circulated to police commands, departments and specialised units across the country for immediate compliance.

According to the directive, CP Gotan has been posted to the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Communications Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he will serve on a special assignment.

The signal, marked “Most Immediate,” was addressed to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, Commissioners of Police, the Force Criminal Investigation Department, the Department of Operations, the Department of Information and Communication Technology, and other police formations nationwide.

Police authorities directed all affected commands to treat the posting as a matter of priority and ensure its immediate implementation.

Reacting to the development, the Special Assistant on Digital Media to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Oni Gbenga Lawrence, welcomed the redeployment, thanking the Inspector-General of Police for what he described as responding to the wishes of the people.

The spokesperson for the Adeleke Campaign Organisation, Pelumi Olajengbesi, also praised the decision, saying it reflected the will of Osun residents.

The redeployment comes amid heightened political activities and security concerns ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.

Earlier on Thursday, Governor Ademola Adeleke alleged that the state was witnessing escalating political violence, accusing the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) and the police of intimidation and politically motivated arrests targeting his supporters.

Speaking at a peace summit ahead of the election, the governor warned that the security situation could deteriorate further if urgent steps were not taken to address the growing tension.
