Disu issued the directive on Saturday during an operational visit to the Niger State Police Command in Minna, where he assessed the security situation, reviewed ongoing operations and provided additional support to personnel deployed across the state.
The IGP said the visit was aimed at strengthening the ongoing rescue efforts and identifying practical solutions to the operational difficulties confronting security agencies in Niger State.
He expressed concern over the abduction and stressed the need for sustained coordination among security agencies to ensure the victims are rescued safely.
According to him, the Nigeria Police Force has deployed specialised personnel, including tactical and counter-terrorism teams, the Special Intervention Squad and Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel, to support the operation.
Disu also directed officers in the state to intensify intelligence gathering and strengthen collaboration with communities, urging residents to provide timely and credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing attacks and locating criminal elements.
He noted that insecurity poses a serious threat not only to lives and property but also to economic activities, investment and development in Niger State and the country.
The IGP charged police officers to remain alert, proactive and professional while carrying out their duties, and commended them for their sacrifices in protecting residents.
On the proposed establishment of state police, Disu said the initiative would complement rather than undermine existing security arrangements, adding that it could enhance policing capacity and improve operational effectiveness.
He reaffirmed the central role of the Nigeria Police Force in maintaining internal security and urged personnel to remain committed to protecting communities despite the challenges confronting them.
The Niger State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, expressed appreciation to the IGP for the additional operational support and assurances given to the
command.
Earlier, Disu visited the Niger State Government House, where Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba briefed him on the security situation across the state.
The visit followed the August 22 attack on Dekara community, where armed men reportedly invaded the area shortly after Friday prayers and abducted an unspecified number of worshippers.
The attackers reportedly struck between 2:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., targeting residents who had gathered at a mosque for the congregational prayer.
Security agencies have since intensified efforts to track the abductors, locate the victims and secure their safe release.
