The inspection focused on residential accommodation and other welfare facilities, with the police chief personally assessing the state of infrastructure across the affected barracks.
During the exercise, Disu interacted with officers, their families and other residents, while taking note of challenges affecting their living conditions and identifying facilities requiring rehabilitation or additional investment.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, describing the exercise as part of the IGP’s broader efforts to make personnel welfare a central element of ongoing police reforms.
According to the statement, the condition of police accommodation and welfare infrastructure has a direct impact on officers’ morale, wellbeing and effectiveness in carrying out their duties.
Disu said the assessment would provide the police leadership with reliable information needed to prioritise interventions and address infrastructure deficiencies across the barracks.
He stressed that officers who dedicate themselves to protecting lives and property should have access to decent and conducive accommodation.
“Personnel who dedicate themselves to the protection of lives and property deserve decent and conducive living conditions,” the IGP said.
He added that improved welfare was essential to developing a motivated, professional and effective police force.
The Nigeria Police Force said it would continue to invest in accommodation, welfare infrastructure and other support systems aimed at improving the wellbeing of officers and their families.
The Force noted that addressing these challenges would not only improve living conditions but also enhance the ability of personnel to effectively perform their constitutional responsibilities.
The inspection is part of the police leadership’s wider strategy to identify practical solutions to welfare and infrastructure challenges confronting personnel across the country.
