The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting critical power infrastructure across the country following a meeting with the Minister of Power, Hon. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The minister, who led a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Power on a courtesy visit, was accompanied by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mahmud Mamman, Director of Distribution, Engr. Mustapha Baba-Umara, Director of Energy Resources, Engr. Kingsley Eneh, and the Minister’s Special Assistant, Martins Olajide.
Discussions centred on strengthening collaboration between the ministry and the police to tackle the growing cases of vandalism targeting electricity infrastructure and the increasing incidence of energy theft nationwide.
Hon. Tegbe sought the continued support of the Nigeria Police Force in safeguarding power installations, improving surveillance of critical infrastructure, and bringing those responsible for energy-related crimes to justice.
In his response, IGP Disu assured the delegation of the Force’s readiness to enhance security around power facilities, intensify efforts against vandals and energy thieves, and ensure offenders are arrested and prosecuted in line with the law
