The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the St. Gregory’s College Old Boys Association in recognition of his contributions to policing and public service.
The honour was disclosed in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, on Saturday, September 26, 2026, following a grand reception organised by the association in Lagos State.
According to the statement, Disu was honoured alongside the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Olayemi Cardoso, as part of the event celebrating distinguished old boys who have made notable contributions to national service and leadership.
The award recognised the IGP’s more than three decades of service to the Nigeria Police Force, spanning frontline policing, criminal investigation, intelligence operations, international peacekeeping and strategic command responsibilities.
A former student of St. Gregory’s College, Disu completed his secondary education at the institution in 1985 before joining the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1992.
Throughout his career, he has served in several strategic capacities, including Commander of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad, Head of the Intelligence Response Team and Commissioner of Police, among other senior assignments.
He was appointed the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police in February 2026.
The statement added that the recognition also acknowledged Disu’s emphasis on professionalism, intelligence-led policing, accountability, personnel welfare, community engagement and the responsible use of technology to strengthen policing and public safety.
Reacting to the honour, the IGP expressed appreciation to the St. Gregory’s College Old Boys Association, describing the recognition from his alma mater as particularly significant.
He reaffirmed his commitment to serving the country with integrity and strengthening the Nigeria Police Force as a professional, accountable and people-centred institution.
The Nigeria Police Force said the recognition further underscored the importance of education, mentorship, exemplary leadership and dedicated service in shaping individuals who contribute meaningfully to national development.
