This was revealed in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
The event, organised by the Office of the First Lady of Nigeria through the Renewed Hope Initiative Social Investment Programme, was held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The second edition of the programme focused on families of security personnel who died in active service since the beginning of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
A total of 1,638 families of deceased police officers benefited from financial empowerment packages aimed at helping them rebuild their livelihoods and support their dependants.
The event was attended by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, Wife of the Senate President, Mrs Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, service chiefs, the President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, as well as wives of heads of various security agencies.
Speaking during the ceremony, IGP Disu expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the First Lady for the initiative, describing the intervention as a strong expression of national gratitude and compassion towards families who lost their loved ones in service to the country.
He said the Renewed Hope Initiative was not merely about government policy but also about restoring dignity and supporting citizens during their most difficult moments.
The police chief assured the beneficiaries that the sacrifices made by their loved ones would remain remembered by the nation.
The Nigeria Police Force also reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of its personnel and continued support for families of officers who died in the line of duty.
