A young girl from Ebonyi State has sustained multiple injuries after her aunt’s boyfriend allegedly assaulted her with a bread toaster in Asaba, Delta State.
The incident occurred in the Ikpoto area, near Power Line Market, where the child was living with her aunt.
According to a concerned resident who intervened, the man attacked the girl while attempting to teach her how to count from one to five. He reportedly became angry when she struggled to learn the numbers.
The child, who had recently arrived in Asaba from her village in Ebonyi State, reportedly told her rescuers that she was still adjusting to life outside her community.
In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, the visibly injured girl recounted how her aunt’s boyfriend assaulted her while her aunt was away from home.
She also disclosed that her aunt and the alleged attacker, whom she identified as a man from Imo State, had recently been having disagreements.
The girl reportedly struggled to recall the name of her hometown during the interaction, raising concerns about her condition following the assault.
Following the incident, a concerned resident, alongside another woman and members of the Ikpoto Security Vigilante, intervened to secure medical attention for the child.
The rescuers initially took her to El Comfort Hospital at Bonssac Junction, Asaba. However, medical personnel reportedly referred her to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, for a CT scan to determine the extent of her injuries.
The resident said she could not accompany the girl to FMC because she was down with malaria. She, however, said she had volunteered to work with the other woman to monitor the situation and ensure the child received the necessary medical care.
The incident has raised concerns over child abuse and the safety of minors entrusted to the care of relatives and other adults.
