Ujah, 43, who represented Awume-Icho Ward in Ohimini Local Government Area, was arraigned before the Upper Area Court 2 in Otukpo on charges bordering on criminal trespass, intimidation, criminal force and assault, causing grievous hurt, and attempted culpable homicide.
The case followed a petition filed by Rebecca Adole at the office of the Area Commander in Otukpo.
According to the First Information Report, marked CR33/2026, the alleged incident occurred on August 28, 2026, at Akwutulo, Awume.
The police alleged that Adole was informed by her cousin, Isaac Iduh, that her mother, Amina Iduh, had been attacked shortly after returning from the farm.
The report alleged that Ujah entered Amina’s compound without her consent, assaulted her and subsequently pushed her into a fire.
The incident reportedly left Amina with injuries to her buttocks, while her clothes were also said to have caught fire.
The FIR further stated that Amina was taken to a hospital in Onyagede, Ohimini Local Government Area, by police officers, where she was receiving medical treatment.
The police also alleged that Ujah threatened to kill the woman and told her that nobody would be able to stop him from carrying out the threat.
At the court sitting on Wednesday, Ujah pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
His counsel, Rev. O. Simon, appearing on behalf of P.O. Ella, urged the court to release the defendant on bail.
However, the prosecution, led by Inspector Nancy Alechenu, opposed the application.
After hearing the submissions, Magistrate Hasia Garuba ordered that Ujah be remanded at the Otukpo Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
The court adjourned the case until September 22, 2026, for further mention.
