The Federal Government has introduced a new online platform, VitalReg, to simplify access to civil registration services, allowing Nigerians to register births and deaths, request birth attestation, correct registration records and verify certificates without visiting registration offices.
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) announced the initiative in a statement issued on Tuesday, explaining that the platform was developed by the National Population Commission (NPC) as part of the government’s drive to modernise and digitise civil registration across the country.
According to the agency, the self-service portal is designed to make the registration process faster and more convenient by reducing paperwork and eliminating the long queues previously experienced at registration centres.
Announcing the initiative, the NOA said, “The Federal Government, through the National Population Commission (NPC), has launched VitalReg — a fully digital platform that allows Nigerians to register births and deaths, apply for birth attestation, correct records, verify certificates and access other civil registration services online.”
It added, “No more long queues or endless paperwork.”
The agency explained that proper registration of births and deaths gives citizens a recognised legal identity, making it easier to access key services such as healthcare, education, passport applications, financial services and other government programmes.
Nigerians can access the platform through selfservice.nationalpopulation.gov.ng, while those who need physical assistance can visit any National Population Commission registration centre across the country.
The launch of VitalReg is part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to strengthen the country’s civil registration system and improve access to digital public services.
