The payment covers the eight-month period from January to August 2026 and is part of the government’s implementation of agreements reached with academic unions in the education sector.
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, disclosed this on Wednesday while inaugurating the Ministerial Committee on Accreditation.
The development was contained in a statement issued by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Biriowo.
Alausa said the release of the funds reflected the Federal Government’s commitment to honouring approved agreements and improving the welfare of personnel in the education sector.
He explained that the payment was being implemented in accordance with the 2025 Federal Government of Nigeria–Academic Staff Union of
Universities agreement.
The minister added that federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education had been directed to commence payment to qualified academic staff.
Alausa further announced that arrangements had commenced for the payment of the corresponding allowance to non-academic staff, with funds expected to be released in the coming weeks.
He reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to improving staff welfare, upgrading educational infrastructure and strengthening the quality of education under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Federal Ministry of Education also reaffirmed its determination to ensure the proper implementation of approved agreements and interventions aimed at improving the education sector.
