The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a woman for allegedly pouring boiling water on her neighbour during an argument over the use of a shared compound space in Lugbe, Abuja.
The incident occurred on September 4, 2026, while the victim, identified as Gift Amos, and the suspect, Mrs Beauty Monday, were engaged in an argument.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the victim reported the matter at the Lugbe Police Division on September 6 at about 3:30 p.m.
According to the statement, preliminary investigations revealed that the disagreement began after Amos moved Monday’s pot of boiling water from a stove to an area of the compound allocated to her.
The action reportedly angered Monday, who took the pot from the designated area and poured the boiling water on Amos’ back, resulting in serious burns and grievous injuries.
The victim is currently receiving medical treatment for the injuries sustained during the incident.
The police said the suspect has been arraigned before a court and remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending further proceedings. The case has been adjourned until September 16, 2026, for hearing.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged residents to embrace peaceful coexistence and exercise restraint when resolving disagreements.
He also advised members of the public against resorting to violence or self-help, stressing the need to use lawful and peaceful channels in settling disputes.
The Command further urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.
