Veteran journalist and Chief Executive Officer of Premium Eagle Media Limited, publisher of Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, has died at the age of 56.

Oladipo reportedly died in Lagos on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, after suddenly taking ill at his office.

The news of his death was announced by Eagle Online on Wednesday, with the publication describing his passing as a shock to his colleagues, friends and associates.

His death was also confirmed by the President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, Danlami Nmodu, who announced the development on the guild’s WhatsApp platform.
Nmodu described Oladipo as an Emeritus President of the guild and prayed for the repose of his soul.

The General Secretary of the Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society, Nkanu Egbe, also confirmed the death, describing it as a major loss to the organisation and the Nigerian journalism profession.

Egbe said Oladipo had led the cooperative with dedication while maintaining a journalism career that spanned nearly three decades.

He added that details concerning funeral arrangements, condolence visits and interim leadership would be announced later.

Reacting to the development, African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore described Oladipo as a “complete gentleman, accomplished digital journalist and remarkable human being,” while extending his condolences to the deceased’s family, friends and colleagues.

Oladipo had an extensive career in Nigerian journalism. He served as Politics Editor and later a member of the Editorial Board of PUNCH Newspapers.

He subsequently worked with Nigerian Tribune, Nigerian Compass and The Sun before establishing Eagle Online through Premium Eagle Media Limited.

He obtained a Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication from Ogun State Polytechnic, Abeokuta, in 1992.

His death has continued to generate tributes from journalists and professional colleagues across the country, many of whom remembered him as a thorough journalist, humble personality and respected figure in Nigeria’s digital media space.
