The Nigeria Police Force has concluded its two-day Executive Training Programme for Commissioners of Police with the formal induction of participating officers into the Institute of Conflict Management and Negotiation Analysts (ICMNA) as Certified Conflict Management and Negotiation Professionals.
The training, organised by the Force Department of Training and Development, focused on strengthening the leadership capacity of Commissioners of Police through modules on strategic communication, media relations, thought leadership, emotional intelligence, public relations and professional excellence.
Speaking at the induction ceremony, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Department of Training and Development, DIG Isyaku Mohammed, who represented the President and Governing Council of ICMNA, described the event as a major step towards promoting professionalism, ethical leadership and effective conflict management within the Nigeria Police Force.
He congratulated the Commissioners of Police on successfully completing the programme, noting that modern policing requires leaders who can communicate effectively, inspire public confidence, manage conflicts professionally and build trust with the communities they serve.
According to him, the skills acquired during the training align with the Institute’s core values of conflict prevention, negotiation, mediation and sustainable peacebuilding.
“The theme of this programme reflects the realities of modern policing. Contemporary law enforcement demands far more than operational competence; it requires leaders who communicate effectively, inspire confidence, manage conflict professionally, negotiate with wisdom, and build enduring public trust,” he said.
DIG Mohammed stated that the induction was not merely the conferment of a professional title but an affirmation of the officers’ commitment to ethical leadership, constructive dialogue and professional excellence.
He urged the newly inducted members to uphold the Institute’s Constitution, Code of Ethics and professional standards while promoting peaceful conflict resolution, accountability, integrity and responsible leadership in the discharge of their duties.
Following the administration of the Institute’s Oath of Allegiance, the Commissioners of Police were formally admitted into the Institute as Certified Conflict Management and Negotiation Professionals.
The ceremony attracted senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force, members of the Governing Council of the Institute, invited dignitaries and media representatives.
The Nigeria Police Force said the initiative underscores its commitment to continuous professional development, institutional excellence and the cultivation of competent, ethical and visionary leaders capable of enhancing public confidence and strengthening national security through modern policing practices.
