A Celestial Church of Christ evangelist, Abidemi Odukoya, and his wife, Adenike, have died following separate incidents linked to an alleged domestic dispute at their home in Ogun State.


The couple reportedly died after an altercation at their residence in the Akinode/Ibogun community in the early hours of Monday, August 25.

According to accounts from residents, the dispute allegedly turned physical, leaving Adenike unconscious and seriously injured, while Odukoya reportedly left the house.

A former Chairman of the Community Development Association in the area, Adejimi Olawumi, said residents raised the alarm after hearing cries for help.

Olawumi said he went to the couple’s residence and found Adenike lying in a pool of blood.

He explained that residents struggled to get her to a hospital because there was no vehicle immediately available to transport her.

According to him, the couple’s son, who was in another room when the incident occurred, told residents that he did not witness what happened between his parents.

As community members searched for Odukoya, they reportedly received information that he had been struck by a vehicle in the Ifo area of Ogun State.

Olawumi said the police subsequently took the injured cleric to a hospital, where his identity was confirmed.

He added that members of the community later began arrangements to return his remains to the family.

The evangelist’s younger sister also claimed in a video circulating online that the couple had experienced repeated disagreements before their deaths.

She said the couple had visited her in April following an earlier quarrel and that the matter was eventually resolved at a police station.

She reportedly appealed to the couple at the time to avoid violence and exercise patience with each other.

The wife was reportedly buried on the day of the incident, while Odukoya’s remains were buried on Wednesday, September 2.

Footage circulating online also showed clerics performing burial rites over the evangelist’s remains at an undisclosed location.

However, the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths remain unclear, with authorities yet to establish what transpired between the couple before the fatal incidents.

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that the matter is under investigation.

The command’s Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Opeyemi Oluborode, said, “The police is investigating the incident.”
