The officer, identified as Force Number 524180, Corporal Yusuf Aliyu, said his decision was linked to his prolonged difficulty in accessing his earnings.
However, the police command says its preliminary checks indicate that Aliyu’s salary was paid regularly.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafi’u Habib, said Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu ordered a discreet investigation to establish exactly what caused the problem.
According to the police, initial findings point to an issue with Aliyu’s Bank Verification Number, or BVN.
The name reportedly registered with the BVN differs from the name on his salary account, which resulted in restrictions that prevented him from accessing the funds.
The command also questioned the corporal’s decision to make the matter public on social media instead of using the internal procedures available to police personnel to resolve such complaints.
The police described the action as a violation of the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy and warned officers against using social media to raise official grievances in ways that could damage the image of the Force.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police assured personnel that their welfare remains a priority and directed that genuine complaints should be addressed through the appropriate administrative channels.
The command said it remains committed to resolving legitimate welfare concerns while maintaining discipline and professionalism among its personnel.
