This was revealed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu.
According to the statement, operatives of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) intercepted a suspect identified as Aboy Torkila during a patrol around the Bakin Kura area of Bauchi metropolis on September 4, 2026.
The suspect was reportedly found in possession of a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle but could not satisfactorily explain how he obtained it.
A search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of a sharp knife, a fabricated master key, popularly known as “Chori”, some dry leaves suspected to be cannabis, two spanners and a lighter.
The CJTF also handed over several other items recovered during its operations across the state, including cutlasses, iron rods, knives, sharp horns, suspected criminal charms, lighters, shisha items and substances suspected to be illicit drugs.
In a separate development, operatives of the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU), Bauchi Base, arrested a 20-year-old man, Umar Saidu, over an alleged attempted culpable homicide.
The suspect was arrested after he allegedly attacked 34-year-old Hassan Muhammad with a cutlass following a minor disagreement in the Karofin Madaki area.
The victim sustained an injury to his hand while attempting to shield his head from the attack and was taken to Tashan Babiye Primary Healthcare Centre for treatment.
The Police said investigation into the cases is ongoing, adding that the suspect would be charged to court after the investigation is concluded.
The Commissioner of Police commended the CJTF and VCRU operatives for their prompt response and directed that discreet investigations be carried out. He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to working with other security stakeholders to protect lives and property across the state.
