The incident was reported to the police on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at about 5:34 p.m., after the suspect reportedly abused the infant at his residence in Lame, Toro LGA.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the suspect, who is the victim’s stepfather, committed the offence after his wife brought the baby to his residence.
Following the report, the infant was taken to the General Hospital, Toro, where she received medical attention and underwent examination.
Police operatives attached to the Gumau Division swiftly responded to the report and arrested the suspect. He remains in police custody as investigation continues.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the act and assured the public that the matter would be thoroughly investigated.
He further stated that the suspect would be charged to court in accordance with the law upon completion of the investigation.
The Command reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on sexual violence and child abuse, urging parents, guardians and community members to remain vigilant and promptly report cases of abuse to the nearest police station.
The police said further updates on the case would be provided in due course.
