The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Sunday when the assailants reportedly invaded the community and opened fire on residents, throwing the area into panic.
The spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the attack in a telephone conversation with journalists.
Rufai said the police were aware of the incident and had commenced efforts to obtain more information on the circumstances surrounding the attack.
A resident familiar with the incident said the victims were mainly farmers who came under attack while carrying out their activities in the community.
The source said eight people lost their lives, while five others sustained gunshot wounds and were taken for medical attention.
The source further linked the attack to recent security operations in the area, saying it may have been carried out in response to the killing of some members of the bandit group by security personnel.
The attack has renewed concerns over the safety of residents in Ghandi and surrounding communities, particularly farmers who remain exposed to attacks by armed groups operating across parts of Sokoto State.
