The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old woman, identified as Aisha Musa, over an alleged attempt to poison her husband in Gwamma Village, Bauchi Local Government Area.
The incident was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu.
Police said Musa, who had been married for about 40 days, allegedly added a poisonous substance to her husband’s food on August 12, 2026.
According to the statement, the matter was reported to the police later that day following a distress call from an unidentified woman residing in the Wunti Dada area of Bauchi.
The police said operatives attached to the ‘C’ Division, Tafawa Balewa Estate, responded to the report and rushed the victim to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he is currently receiving treatment and is said to be in stable condition.
The suspect was subsequently arrested by the police.
During interrogation, the Command said the woman allegedly made a confessional statement admitting to the offence.
Investigators also recovered an empty bottle suspected to have contained the poisonous substance, alongside remnants of the food, which were preserved as exhibits.
Following the development, the Commissioner of Police directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
The police said the suspect would be prosecuted after the completion of the investigation.
The Command also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station, reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining law and order across the state.
