27-year-old Ahmed Iliasu has been arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court in Ajah, Lagos State, on charges of conspiracy, extortion, attempt to extort, threatening to unleash mayhem, and breach of peace.
The alleged incident took place on July 14, 2023, around 4 am at Peace Land Estate Majek, Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos. The defendant, along with his accomplices, reportedly conspired and blocked the expressway to extort money from motorists and threatened violence if they did not comply.
The charges against Iliasu are in violation of Sections 411, 303 (a) and (b), and Section 168(d) of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
During the court proceedings, Iliasu pleaded not guilty to all charges. The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. M. Daramola, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties required to provide the same amount each.
The case was adjourned until July 24, 2023, for mention, and further developments will be monitored as the trial progresses.
