Scores of demonstrators from Kaduna State took to the national headquarters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday to demand that an additional ministerial nominee from the state be added to the slot of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

The protesters, chanting solidarity songs and displaying banners, emphasized the need for President Bola Tinubu to respect other APC families in Kaduna State and provide democratic dividends to the people.

Addressing journalists at the secretariat, the coordinator of Kaduna APC Patriots, Prof Gandu Yusuf, stated that the demand for an additional ministerial nominee was not only about repaying the state’s votes but also about recognizing the contributions of party loyalists and key individuals from the opposition parties.

Yusuf urged the party leadership to consider individuals who have genuinely worked for the success of the party.

He further added, “This group is therefore objecting to any new ministerial nomination outside those that have contributed immensely and glaringly to the success of the party in Kaduna State, especially during the presidential and governorship elections.”

Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the APC, received the demonstrators and assured them that their request would be communicated to President Bola Tinubu.

He noted that the government aimed to prioritize competence and capability over geographical representation in the ministerial appointments.

The protest highlighted the party members’ desire for inclusivity and recognition of the contributions made by various individuals to the party’s success in Kaduna State.

The response from the APC headquarters indicated a commitment to addressing the concerns raised by the demonstrators.
